An AI strategic plan template is a ready-made framework for assessing your current position, setting AI goals, and turning them into a funded, time-bound execution plan.

It gives you one place to review your existing strategy, size up competitors and market forces, set targets and projected ROI, map risks, allocate budget, and track progress against every action item.

Build a clear, evidence-backed plan for bringing AI into your business, from where you stand today to how you’ll fund and track it.

Who is it for?

It’s for RevOps and go-to-market leaders who’ve been asked to shape or support their company’s AI strategy and need to present it to the exec team or board. It’s also useful if you’re revisiting an existing plan and need a structured way to decide what to keep, change, or drop.

What’s inside the template?

The template is split into three stages, each with worked examples you can replace with your own data:

  1. Assessment: an evaluation of your current plan, success factors and barriers, core competencies, a 7S review, AI readiness scores by function, stakeholder mapping, an environment scan, competitor mapping, and industry benchmarks
  2. Strategy: a plan overview, long-term objectives, your AI vision, projected ROI by initiative, a balanced scorecard, future scenarios, and a risk matrix
  3. Implementation: an initiative map, a 3-year execution timeline, an implementation cycle, resource and budget plans, resource impact mapping, an execution dashboard, and a framework for adjusting the plan

How to use the template

Start with the assessment stage. Score each initiative in your current plan as retain, modify, or discontinue, then work through readiness, stakeholders, and competitors. Be honest here, because every goal and budget line later in the plan depends on it.

Next, set your goals, outcomes, and KPIs, and attach an investment and projected ROI to each initiative so leadership can see what they’re paying for. Plot your top risks by probability and impact before you commit to a timeline.

Then build out the execution timeline and budget split, assign an owner to every action item in the dashboard, and track status as you go. Once a year, use the four questions in the adjustment framework to decide whether the plan needs minor tweaks or a full rework.
